Hi, I'm

Danny Garcia

I'm a senior web developer with experience dating back to 2013 building digital products for companies of all shapes and sizes. Early-stage startups and enterprise companies have both trusted me to build things that hold up under real use. I get the most joy when building products from start to finish, focusing on the user experience, and working alongside other technologists who care about their craft. Currently consulting at thoughtbot.

Where I've worked

2019–Present

Senior Software Engineer — thoughtbot

Senior Ruby on Rails consultant at a top consultancy, embedded with clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies like Amazon (One Medical) to two-person startups, adapting to vastly different technical and business contexts.

Worked across greenfield product launches, long-term platform maintenance for high- traffic apps, and collaborated with client engineering teams through pairing, code reviews, and day-to-day collaboration.

Served as co-chair of the DEI Council, leading cross-team initiatives including a leadership training program for ERG leaders.

2015–2019

Software Engineer — Treehouse

Partnered with designers, PMs, and engineers to deliver new features for Treehouse's main Rails application and triaged critical bugs on the reactions team.

Contributed to the data team by building internal ETL pipeline infrastructure that enabled data scientists to more efficiently report on business metrics.

2013–2015

Software Engineer — Aetna

Contributed to full-stack platform development across web and mobile — building an internal authentication API, shipping features for Aetna's main Rails app, and instrumenting applications to inform business decisions.

Partnered with the development team to continuously refine engineering workflows, from establishing best practices to improving the code review process.

Things I built on nights and weekends

I enjoy building and learning new things even outside of my discipline.

Tiny House Build

My brother and I (with some help) built a tiny house for fun! It was a great learning experience and we had a blast doing it. I learned a lot about construction, design, and project management. Here are a few photos of what we buit.

hammies

A workout tracking app for people focused on hypertrophy training. This is still a WIP and not quite ready to share yet.
